Lay Missionaries of Charity
 
Founded on April 16, 1984, by Fr. Sebastian Vazhakala, M.C., in the presence and full participation of Mother Teresa of Kolkata, M.C., the Lay Missionaries of Charity (LMC) is an International Association  of lay men and women, married or single, who adhere to the Spirit and Charism of the M.C. Family.  The Lay M.C.s is one of the six branches of the M.C. Tree and includes over 3,000 professed members in 51 countries around the world.  With the Holy Family as our patron, our focus is the sanctification of the family and, as such, we welcome families with children to participate in our ministry.
 
The Lay M.C.s meet on the first Saturday of every month at St. Thomas More Church to study the teachings and charism of Fr. Sebastian, M.C. and St. Teresa of Kolkata, followed by prayer, adoration, and Mass. The apostolate of the Pittsburgh group currently centers around caring for the poorest of the poor throughout the area, especially those within our own families, those with developmental and learning disabilities, the hungry, the imprisoned, the homebound, and those who are spiritually poor.  Recently, we have been blessed to have M.C. Brothers Contemplative join us in our service as they have recently established a house in nearby Akron, OH.
