When you think of these four simple words, if you’re like me, your mind automatically takes you “Back in Time” to several great songs. Some of you may think about the title track for Back to the Future by Huey Lewis and the News, while others may reminisce about the R&B hit by the late Luther Vandross, or a plethora of other songs with similar titles.
Music is a great trigger of memory and emotions. But The Power of Love that today’s Gospel is talking about goes much deeper than our emotions and distant memories. Jesus tells us to love one another. He said, “As I have loved you, so you also should love one another”.
Jesus demonstrated how much He loved us by exchanging His life for our salvation. And at each and every Mass, He demonstrates His love for us as He makes Himself present for us in the Eucharist. As we receive His Body Blood, Soul, and Divinity in the Eucharist, His love permeates our soul and emboldens us to share His love with others.
Blessed Carlo Acutis knew the Power of Love that exists in the Eucharist and spent his short fifteen years on earth evangelizing, and ensured that others knew about, understood, and were in awe of Jesus’ love for us that is present in the Eucharist. He even created a web site that is dedicated to documenting Eucharistic Miracles from around the world. And on this web site, is a short, animated film that helps to explain the Eucharist to children, as well as to those of us who are young at heart. This film can be found at: https://www.miracolieucaristici.org/en/Video/video.html
As St. Teresa of Kolkata once stated, “If we truly understand the Eucharist; if we make the Eucharist the central focus of our lives; if we feed our lives with the Eucharist, we will not find it difficult to discover Christ, to love Him, and to serve Him in the poor.”
My wife Barb and I recently experienced this love firsthand as we visited the first M.C. Brothers’ House in the U.S., which is in Akron, OH. While many know about the M.C. Sisters, few know about the other five branches of the M.C. Tree, including the M.C. Brothers Contemplative and the Lay Missionaries of Charity, which has a group that is based in our parish.
Please pray for the M.C. Brothers and the success of their new ministry in the U.S., as they embody the Body of Christ and share His love with others by caring for the poorest of the poor.
Embrace the Eucharist, understand It, experience the awe of His Real Presence and allow It to radiate through you so you can share the Power of His Love!
